IGUKA University Awards Scholarships to 47 Pioneer Beneficiaries

The Scholarship Committee of the IGUKA University Senate has officially awarded scholarship letters to 47 students admitted under the Bishops’ Scheme and Parish Scholarship Program. The ceremony, held today, was graced by Rev. Fr. Placid Mugumya, Secretary to the Bishop of Kabale Diocese, who represented the diocese—the primary funding body for these scholarships.

Dr. Diana Kwarikunda, the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Chairperson of the Scholarship Committee, addressed the recipients, urging them to appreciate the value and purpose of the scholarships. “It is essential that you understand the source of these funds,” she emphasized, calling on the students to engage actively in university activities and become devoted members of the University Chapel as a sign of gratitude to God and the church for this rare opportunity.

Dr. Kwarikunda also reminded the beneficiaries to uphold the core values of the university, adhere to its policies, and maintain high academic standards, stressing that their continued scholarship support is contingent on their academic performance and conduct.

Rev. Fr. Placid Mugumya, the Guest of Honor, highlighted that the scholarships are not simply free gifts, but opportunities to realize the students’ academic potential. He stated that while the Diocese does not expect direct returns from the recipients, it aims to empower them to gain the knowledge and skills needed to uplift their families and communities.

“Being the first batch of students and pioneer beneficiaries should be a source of pride for each of you because you are now part of the rich history of IGUKA University,” Fr. Mugumya remarked. He also encouraged the students to prioritize originality and creativity, avoid plagiarism, and strive to become exemplary graduates of IGUKA University. Moreover, he urged them to remain in regular contact with their families, remain prayerful, and focus on becoming job creators rather than job seekers.

Fr. Zeno Mbinshinzimana, the University Chaplain, reminded the beneficiaries to use the opportunity to achieve their main academic objectives. He further advised them to always keep in mind that IGUKA University is their Alma Mater and to take pride in its name after graduation. Echoing Fr. Placid’s sentiments, Fr. Zeno reiterated that the support from the Diocese is meant to help them transform their own lives and those of their families.

The event marked a significant milestone in IGUKA University’s history, celebrating the beginning of a journey toward nurturing academic excellence and transformative leadership for these pioneer students.
On the side of students represented by Miss Bibiana, a student of Bachelors of Tourism, Heritage and Leisure Management and Mr. Polito Niwagaba, a student of Bachelors of Business Administration, thanked God and Kabale Diocese for the scholarship opportunity granted to them. They have promised to work hard and achieve their academic goals so that their sponsors are also proud.
