Students of Tourism, Heritage, and Leisure Management at St. Ignatius University Kabale (IGUKA) today held a vibrant practical session on the Banyakare dance, a key cultural heritage of the Bakiga people of Kigezi.
Dressed in costumes made from banana leaves, the students demonstrated energetic footwork, drumming, and dance movements as part of their course unit, Tourism Product Identification and Profiling.
The practical was aimed at equipping students with skills in identifying, profiling, and promoting intangible cultural heritage as a tourism product.
According to the department, the Banyakare dance is a unique cultural tourism product with great potential to be packaged for visitors to Kabale and the Lake Bunyonyi area.
Learning by doing remains at the heart of tourism training at IGUKA.
