
IGUKA, October 29, 2025 – In a bid to enhance the quality of teaching and learning, IGUKA Academic staff recently underwent a comprehensive training on Competence-Based Curriculum (CBC): Instruction and Assessment Practices. The training, held on October 29, 2025, was facilitated by renowned expert Trainer Fr. Katarikawe Adrian, who is currently working with Uganda National Institute of Teacher Education (UNITE).
The training aimed to equip academic staff with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively implement the Competence-Based Curriculum, which focuses on equipping students with competencies, skills, and attitudes required in the 21st century. Participants were taken through key aspects of CBC, including designing instruction, assessing student learning, and using assessment data to inform instruction.
Fr. Katarikawe emphasized the importance of teacher training in ensuring successful implementation of CBC, noting that “teachers play a critical role in shaping the future of our students, and it is essential that they are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to deliver high-quality education.”

The training was well-received by participants, who appreciated the opportunity to learn from a seasoned expert in the field. “This training has been enlightening, and I am confident that it will impact positively on my teaching practices,” said one participant.
The training marks a significant milestone in IGUKA’s efforts to strengthen its academic programs and ensure that students receive a world-class education. With this training, IGUKA Academic staff are better equipped to prepare students for success in an increasingly complex and rapidly changing world.
