Kabale – September 2026
St. Ignatius University Kabale (IGUKA) was filled with joy and celebration as the University held its much-anticipated Freshers Ball 2026 to officially welcome First Year students into the IGUKA family.
The colourful night brought together students from all corners of Uganda from West Nile to Karamoja, Busoga to Acholi, Buganda, Lango, Teso, Tooro, Bunyoro, Ankole and Kigezi — under one theme: Different tribes, one IGUKA.
The Ball was graced by the Students Union leadership led by the Union President, H.E. Akansasira Merrick, the Vice President, the Rt. Hon. Speaker, Deputy Speaker, Secretaries and Councillors, as well as the Outgoing and Incoming Chief Freshers. The University also hosted special guests from Kigezi Teens Magazine
led by the CEO, Mr. Edie and his Media Team.
Speaking on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, the Marketing, Communications and Students Liaison Officer, Mr. Ainomuhangi Josephat, welcomed the freshers and called on all students to embrace the University’s hands-on philosophy.
“We are not just a University that teaches theory. We are a hands-on University. We believe in learning by doing. Uganda does not just need graduates with papers, Uganda needs graduates with skills for their hands to work and create jobs,” Mr. Ainomuhangi said.
He urged students to live the University motto of Inspire, Empower, Transform.
“Inspire one another. Be inspired by our guests Kigezi Teens who are using their hands and cameras to inspire thousands. Empower your hands and minds through focus attend lectures, go for practicals, use the library. Then go and transform your communities. Create jobs, don’t just look for jobs,” he added.
Mr. Ainomuhangi also commended the Students Union leadership led by H.E. Akansasira Merrick for organizing a successful Ball and thanked Kigezi Teens Magazine for partnering with IGUKA to inspire the youth.
The Freshers Ball featured entertainment, dance, crowning of the new Chief Fresher and networking, marking the official start of academic and social life for the new students at IGUKA, a recognised University by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE).
The celebrations ended with a call to students to remain focused, God-fearing and disciplined as they pursue their studies.
