In a bid to deepen their understanding of regional cultures and heritage, students from IGUKA Tourism Heritage and Leisure Management recently embarked on a vibrant study tour that took them to several significant locations across the Uganda-Rwanda border.
The tour kicked off with a visit to the Cyanika border post, which links Uganda to Rwanda, offering insights into the bustling cross-border trade and cultural exchange between the two nations. The group then proceeded to the Bunagana border post, connecting Uganda to the Democratic Republic of Congo, where they explored the dynamics of regional integration and cooperation.
A highlight of the tour was the exhilarating hike up Caldera Hill, known as Sagitwa, which offered breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. The group also unwound and rejuvenated at the picturesque Lake Mutanda, where they spent time basking in the beauty of the lake’s scenic beach.
The tour’s cultural immersion continued with a visit to the village of Kirwa in Nyarubuye sub-county, where the group delved into the rich cultural heritage of the Bamufumbira people. They gained valuable insights into the community’s traditions, customs, and way of life.
To cap off the day, the group enjoyed a delightful lunch at Bufumbira Hotel, reflecting on the experiences and insights gained during their
tour. The IGUKA Tourism Heritage and Leisure Management’s study tours aim to promote cultural understanding, regional integration, and tourism development, fostering a deeper appreciation for the region’s diverse heritage and natural beauty.
