Kabale, Uganda — 29th August 2026 — St. Ignatius University Kabale (IGUKA) joined residents and local authorities in a community cleaning exercise to mark National Cleaning Day and promote environmental cleanliness.

The exercise started at the university premises and extended to Mwanjari in Kabale Municipality’s Southern Division, where participants cleaned public spaces, including areas around chapati kiosks that were found to be unhygienic.

The university team was led by the Vice Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Maximiano Ngabirano. Among the staff was Dr. Tom Bbosa, the Community Engagement and Experiential Learning Coordinator, and Mr. Ainomuhangi Josephat, the Public Relations Officer (PRO). The team also included student leaders led by H.E. Merrick Akansasira, the Union President, and Rt. Hon. Rosset Tukamuhabwa, the Union Speaker.

They worked alongside community members and local authorities, including the Deputy Town Clerk of Southern Division, Mr. Hassan.

Participants collected litter, cleared drainage channels, and sensitized residents and food vendors on proper waste disposal and hygiene.

The exercise emphasized collective responsibility in maintaining clean and healthy communities while promoting proper waste management and encouraging residents to keep public spaces clean.
