KABALE – St. Ignatius University Kabale (IGUKA) has hosted the Episcopal Ordination and Installation of Rt. Rev. Bonaventure Bosco Gubazire as the 5th Bishop of Kabale Diocese and 4th Residential Bishop.
The historic celebration, which brought together thousands of Christians, priests, religious leaders, government officials and the academic community, was held on Saturday, 3rd October 2026, led by Rt. Rev. Callist Rubaramira, the Bishop Emeritus of Kabale, as the Principal Consecrator.
Rt. Rev. Gubazire succeeds Bishop Rubaramira, who is the current Chancellor of IGUKA and is widely known and celebrated for having promoted education and integral family development in the Diocese – the very pillars upon which IGUKA was founded.
The IGUKA community expressed immense joy and gratitude, noting that it is a blessing for its Foundation Body, Kabale Diocese, to receive a new shepherd.
In a congratulatory message, the University Management said:
“As the IGUKA fraternity, we are happy that our Foundation Body has got a new leader succeeding Bishop Rubaramira. We thank Bishop Emeritus Rubaramira for his 23 years of dedicated service and for championing education and family transformation in Kigezi. We warmly welcome Rt. Rev. Bonaventure Bosco Gubazire and pledge our loyalty, prayers and support as he begins his pastoral ministry.”
In his first address, the new Bishop, whose Episcopal Motto is “LUX TUA LUCEAT – Let Your Light Shine,” called for unity and collaboration between the Church, the University, Government and all stakeholders to foster faith, peace and socio-economic transformation in the Kigezi region.
“I come among you with a listening heart, ready to learn, to journey with you, and together to serve God’s people,” Bishop Gubazire said.
The hosting of the ordination at IGUKA marks a significant milestone in the growing relationship between the Diocese and its University, reaffirming IGUKA’s role as a key institution in fulfilling the Diocese’s mission of education and service to humanity.
