IGUKA PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER EMPHASIZES COMPETENCE-BASED EDUCATION TO CATECHISTS

The Public Relations Officer of St. Ignatius University Kabale (IGUKA), Josephat Ainomuhangi, addressed 240 catechists from Kabale Diocese at Rushoroza Pastoral Center on March 27, 2026. Ainomuhangi emphasized embracing Competence-Based Education, enabling children to acquire practical skills and become job creators. IGUKA’s motto, “Inspire, Empower, Transform,” guides this approach, emphasizing societal transformation through holistic education promoting integrity, transparency, accountability, respect, quality, and excellence.

Ainomuhangi urged catechists to champion education, lead by example, and prioritize educating their children to break poverty cycles. “No skills, no jobs,” he stressed, highlighting the need for practical skills in today’s economy. He discouraged jealousy among families, noting that focused development reduces societal issues like theft. He added, “If you don’t have a child to join the University, share the information with your neighbour or relative so their child can benefit the society tomorrow, or support your grandchild, or any vulnerable child, because you don’t know what tomorrow holds for him/her.” IGUKA aims to contribute to Uganda’s development by equipping students with practical skills.

Ainomuhangi highlighted IGUKA’s practical and entrepreneurship-focused courses, offered at various levels:

  1. Agriculture and Food Systems (Bachelor, Diploma)
  2. Business Administration (Bachelor, Diploma)
  3. Tourism Heritage and Leisure Management (Bachelor, Diploma)
  4. Education (Primary) (Bachelor, Diploma)
  5. Science Laboratory Technology (Diploma, Certificate)
  6. Medical Records and Health Informatics (Diploma, Certificate)

Ainomuhangi also informed the catechists that IGUKA is setting up a skilling/vocational campus that will offer Engineering courses like wood work technology, metal works, textiles, mechanics, construction and building. He emphasized that products of IGUKA will be able to compete in the world job market, thanks to the practical skills and training they’ll receive.

In his closing remarks, Ainomuhangi called upon the catechists to entrust IGUKA with their children, emphasizing the university’s ability to empower and transform students with hands-on skills, shaping them into confident and capable individuals ready to drive positive change in their communities.
