NCHE Completes Assessment of St. Ignatius University Kabale, Affirms Progress and Provides Development Guidance Kabale, 18 June 2026

The National Council for Higher Education has concluded a two-day institutional assessment of St. Ignatius University Kabale, affirming the young university’s steady progress and providing technical guidance for institutional development.

Led by Prof. Jonnie Mugisha, the NCHE team toured lecture facilities, laboratories, and the 30 acres of land at IGUKA from 17th to 18th June 2026. The delegation held discussions with the Governing Council and staff, and reviewed governance records, academic files, and financial reports.

Institutional Strengths Noted
The NCHE team commended several aspects of IGUKA’s development since its establishment:
– Governance: An active University Governing Council providing strategic oversight.
– Staffing: Well qualified and committed academic and administrative staff driving the university’s mission.

– Programs: Competence based courses in education, agriculture, business, tourism, health sciences and Science Laboratory Technology designed to respond to national development needs. – Land and Practical Training: Use of the university’s 30 acres of land for student practicums, supporting hands-on learning and future infrastructure growth.
– Compliance: Adherence to statutory obligations, including approved budgets and audited financial reports.
– Environment: A clean, green campus conducive to learning and research.

Guidance for Institutional Development
As is standard practice for growing universities, the NCHE team also provided technical guidance for institutional development in line with IGUKA’s growth projections. The engagement supports the university’s commitment to maintaining quality standards while expanding access to higher education at the national level.

Commitment to Continuous Improvement
Vice Chancellor Fr. Prof. Maximiano Ngabirano expressed appreciation for the assessment. “We thank the National Council for Higher Education for their time and guidance. These engagements are vital. They help us reflect on our achievements and sharpen our focus as we grow,” he said.

He added, “We will integrate the technical guidance into our strategic plan while upholding national standards and contributing to Uganda’s human capital development.”

The assessment comes as IGUKA prepares for its August 2026 intake, with students expected to report on 17th August 2026.
