Headteachers Briefed on St. Ignatius University Growth and Programs

The Kabale Diocese Executive Primary Headteachers Association was today addressed by the St. Ignatius University Kabale Public Relations Officer during their termly meeting held at the Diocesan Education Secretary’s boardroom.

The PRO reported steady progress at the university, which started with 48 students on 8th January 2024 and now has 309 students. He thanked the community for the support driving this growth.

He urged headteachers to encourage teachers to pursue further studies for better classroom delivery and career advancement. On education programs, the university offers:

Bachelor of Primary Education (Direct Entry) for students after S.6, run on a full-time basis
Bachelor of Education Primary for practicing teachers seeking to upgrade, run on a holiday program
Diploma in Primary Education for teachers adding to their level of education, also on a holiday program

The PRO clarified that IGUKA does not only offer education courses. Other available programs include:

Degree Programs
– Bachelor of Tourism, Heritage and Leisure Management
– Bachelor of Agriculture and Food Systems
– Bachelor of Business Administration

Diploma Programs
– Diploma in Tourism and Hotel Management
– Diploma in Science Laboratory Technology
– Diploma in Medical Records and Health Informatics
– Diploma in Agriculture

Certificate Programs
– Certificate in Science Laboratory Technology
– Certificate in Medical Records and Health Informatics

He added that admissions for the August 2026 intake are now open, with the reporting date set for 17th August 2026. He invited prospective students and parents to join IGUKA for competence based education.

Association Chairperson Mr. Pius Rwakimari asked headteachers to advise their staff to take advantage of the upgrading opportunities. “Professional growth of our teachers directly improves learning in our schools,” he said.

Diocesan Education Secretary Mr. Byamukama Remegio emphasized that teachers hoping for promotions should prioritize further studies, as qualifications remain key to career advancement.

The meeting ended with headteachers resolving to sensitize teachers and the wider community on the programs at St. Ignatius University and to support enrollment for the August 2026 intake.
