JOB ADVERT NO.2/2023: TEACHING OPPORTUNITIES
St. Ignatius University Kabale (IGUKA) located 2kms on Kabale – Katuna Road is a Church founded University licensed by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE). The University, therefore, invites applications from suitably qualified persons to fill the teaching posts in this advertisement.
NOTE: The application is for teaching in the bachelors and diploma programmes indicated in this advert only and the applicants should specify which programme is being applied for and the specific courses they are able to teach.
Applicants should be persons of integrity and have a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in teaching and research in higher institutions of learning and a satisfactory record of service to the community.
Submitted applications must include: an application letter indicating the selected academic programme from the table of the advertised programmes, detailed curriculum vitae indicating three referees, certified copies of all relevant academic documents, a photocopy of the national ID, and a colored passport-size photo attached to the application letter. Applicants should make sure that the three referees forward references in closed and sealed envelopes by the closing date.

JOB DESCRIPTIONs AND PERSON SPECIFICATIONS
Job Title: Lecturer (2 POSTS)
Responsible to: Head of Department.
Duty Station: Kabale.
Purpose of the Job
To conduct high quality research and teach undergraduate students as applicable
Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepares lectures and delivers them to students.
- Sets, invigilates, and marks tests, course works and examination scripts.
- Guides and advises students on their academic performance.
- Attends to student’s non-academic challenges and refers those that need further counseling and guidance.
- Conducts research and disseminates research findings through conferences, seminars and publications.
- Supervises undergraduate and post graduate students undertaking research projects.
- Conducts seminars and tutorials.
- Carries out official administrative duties in the department as directed by the Head of Department.
- Contributes to the University and wider society through community service.
Key Outputs
- Lectures delivered.
- Tests, course work and examination scripts marked and examinations results compiled and graded.
- Research undertaken and findings disseminated.
- Students guided and advised on their performance.
- Student non-academic challenges attended to or referred.
- Students undertaking research supervised.

Qualifications:
- Should have PhD or Master’s Degree on PhD track in the relevant field.
- Should have a Postgraduate Diploma in Education
- Should have excellent interpersonal and effective communication skills.
- Should have proven ability to conduct scholarly research.
- Should be computer literate.
- Should have the ability to work in a team.
- Should have at least five (5) years teaching experience gained from a recognized institution of higher learning.
- Should have a good track record of service to the public.
Tenure of Appointment
The successful candidate shall be employed on contract for three (3) years renewable, subject to satisfactory performance.
Job Title: Assistant Lecturer (11 POSTS)
Responsible to: Head of Department
Duty Station: Kabale
Purpose of the Job
To assist in the design, development and production of teaching/learning materials.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Preparing lecture material and conducts lectures to undergraduate students.
- Setting, invigilating, and marking tests, course works, examinations, as well as compiling examinations results.
- Supervising student projects under guidance and supervision of a Lecturer.
- Mentoring junior staff in academic growth and research.
- Carrying out official administrative duties that may be assigned by the Head of Department.
Key Outputs
- Lectures prepared and delivered.
- Tests, course works and examination scripts marked and examinations results compiled and graded.
- Students’ projects supervised.
- Junior Academic Staff mentored.
- Official assignments by Head of Department done.
Qualifications:
- Should have a Master’s degree in the relevant discipline. Should have a high level of academic potential to pursue higher degrees.
- Should have a Post graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE)
- Should have good interpersonal and effective communication skills.
- Should be computer literate.
- Should have a good track record of service to the public.

Job Title: Teaching Assistant (4 POSTS)
Responsible to: Head of Department
Duty Station: Kabale
Purpose of the Job
This is a training position to assist the senior faculty Members in delivering quality instruction to undergraduate students.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist the senior faculty Members in teaching, research, and administrative tasks.
- Conduct tutorials, seminars and laboratory session.
- Assist in marking and grading assignments, tests, and examinations.
- Support students in their academic pursuits and provide guidance and mentorship.
- Participate in faculty meetings and contribute to the development of the curriculum.
Key Outputs
- Lectures prepared and delivered under guidance.
- Set tests, course works, and examinations scripts marked and examinations results compiled under guidance.
- Tests, examinations and coursework administered or invigilated under guidance.
- Students’ projects supervised under guidance.

Qualifications:
- Should have a Bachelor’s degree in the relevant discipline from a recognized University with the minimum of a second-class upper division.
- Should have a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE)
- Should have a high level of academic potential to pursue higher degrees.
- Should have good interpersonal and effective communication skills.
- Proficiency in the use of modern technologies, computers and relevant software applications such as word, excel, power point etc.
- Should have a good record of service to the public.
